The Lucky #7 Collection
The Lucky #7 Collection started when I was living in Normangee, Texas in 2000. I was at a Little League baseball game watching Damon, my stepson play and as I was watching the game the idea for the "Play Ball" illustration came to me. While the original character in the illustration is based on Damon as he was walking away from me towards the pitcher's mound, I also incorporated actual places where I played ball as a child near Doyline Louisiana. The ideas grew from there, I decided to do an illustration as often as I could depicting actual places and things I did as a child. "Gone Fishin'" is a combination of places where I would go exploring in the woods and fishing when I was a kid living near Wickes, Arkansas. "Gone Huntin'", is a place near Vandervoort, Arkansas where I deer hunted from a young age and still hunt today. The hound dogs, by the way were all real too, when I was a kid, we raised and hunted coon with Black and Tan Coonhounds. The dog in the "Play Ball" was Jake, that's Bonnie in "Gone Fishin'", and Clyde in "Gone Huntin'". I named Bonnie and Clyde after the famous bank robbers that were killed not far from where I grew up in Louisiana. In 2014 I expanded on my Lucky #7 idea and decided to continue to create illustrations of me in actual places with the same red hat an back to the audience. The reason for my back to the audience is that the illustrations will continue as I age until death at which point the final illustration will be me, Lucky #7 looking in a mirror to see the now hopefully old me looking back. Stay tuned for the next Luck #7 that is in the works.
